TruSolar® is our system architecture which maximizes solar and minimizes battery. This is due to a deep design priority on vessel efficiency and attention to detail on the efficiency of all systems on board. All the energy comes from the sun. Batteries are only used for overcast, nighttime and emergency operation. Unlike some boats that include solar but are not efficient and include a large battery pack to provide most energy required, our vessels are designed efficiently enough to accomplish any boating activity needed using solar that is generated on board and in some cases augmented by dockside solar and net-zero energy.
This has allowed Worden Marine vessels to achieve some of the lowest power consumption in the industry making TruSolar® a winning system for your vessel application.
The Problem with Traditional Marine Vessels
Fossil-fuel-powered boats cause major environmental harm:
Emit high levels of CO₂
Rely on outdated emissions controls
Large vessels burn bunker fuel, one of the dirtiest oils on earth
Leak and spill fuel regularly—onshore and at sea
Engines and equipment need significant and continuous maintenance
Fuel fumes and exhaust provide a significant safety risk and impact passenger comfort
Gas and diesel engines provide sound and vibration that is annoying and fatiguing to passengers and crew
The Solar-Electric Solution
Electric boats eliminate fuel and emissions.
Solar-powered boats go even further by generating clean energy onboard:
Capture sunlight through solar PV panels
Store excess energy in onboard batteries
Power both propulsion and onboard systems
Eliminate noise, fumes, and pollution
How Solar Marine Vessels Work
Generate power with PV panels during the day
Store energy in batteries for night or cloudy weather
Prioritize efficiency, since roof and deck space for panels is limited
Power lights, instruments, and systems from the same battery bank
Supplement with dockside AC grid or off-board PV charging when needed
A Better Boating Experience
Worden Marine’s solar vessels redefine what boating feels like:
Cruise silently at 4–8 knots, with top speed up to 10-16 knots (depending on vessel and motors)
Skip fuel docks—just step onboard and go
Power all electronics while moored or anchored
Charge overnight via shore power when needed
No fuel fumes or risk of fuel leaks or explosions
You’ll save time, avoid fuel costs, and enjoy a cleaner, quieter ride.
